Between Rigor and Reverence. Yu Dafu and His Views on Translation

Despite his prominence in modern Chinese literature and the significant role played by translation literary career, Yu Dafu’s (1896-1945) activity as a theorist practitioner remains largely unexplored. translated into number of short stories, treatises, poems such authors Wilde, Twain, Sinclair, Nietzsche, Rousseau; he also devoted several essays to issue its practice. Through an analysis Yu’s theoretical writings, I aim provide brief account reflections on subjectivity translator, principles desirable translating practice, relation between original writing, cultural significance translation. By doing so, wish highlight seminal reflection artistic well specificity contribution within intellectual debate time.
